Light.
Africa is home to one of the world’s largest off-grid populations; approximately 590 million people live with no connection to their national electric grid. Most households are under-lit. Almost two-thirds say areas in the house lack needed light which restricts activities such as doing homework, evening work, and preparing food. Kerosene is a common way to light dwellings at night. These lanterns can fill homes with toxic smoke, are highly flammable with accidents common, and the expense can consume a significant portion of their income.
Water.
Clean drinking water is crucial to preventing infection, illness, and death in developing countries. The fact remains that nearly 1 billion people in developing countries do not have access to safe drinking water. In Africa, usually women and girls walk miles every day to collect water for their families. When they finally collect the water, the source is often streams and ponds containing dirty, contaminated water. Animals frequently use the same water to drink and wash in, meaning that the water is full of disease. However, when faced with dehydration or dirty water, many will take the risk and drink.
Life.
A world where every woman, man, and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.
It is our belief that by giving light, water, and wellness to a family, you give them life. Life to not only survive but to live sustainably and to dream for a better future.
Light. Water. Life.
